Our longevity promise
When you seal a message for a wedding 20 years out, or write the story of your grandmother's kitchen, you're trusting us with decades. That's an enormous trust. This page tells you, in plain words, what protects your memories today, what happens in the hard cases, and what we're still building. No poetry where facts belong.
Your timelock is encrypted with AES-256, and the key is split into three shares using a method called secret sharing: one share is protected by your password, one goes to a trusted contact you choose, and one is held by WillThis. Any two of the three shares can open the seal — and no single share can open anything on its own. Even we cannot read your private messages; that's not a policy, it's the math of the design.
If you lose your password, your trusted contact and WillThis can recover the seal together. If a trusted contact becomes unreachable, your share and ours still open it. The protection doesn't depend on any one person — including us.
Your account is the vault. What you build in TimeProofMemories — stories, photos, trees, recipes, keepsakes — is stored under your login, not on one phone. If you clear your browser data or switch devices, signing in brings it back.
You can also take your archive with you: encrypted backup files you can download and keep anywhere, unlocked with a recovery phrase only you hold. Your memories never depend on a single company's servers.
Honest answer first: we're an early company, not a century-old institution. Our business entity is still forming, and our terms are interim until our attorneys finish their review. We won't dress that up.
What we can tell you today:
We'll update this page — and date the updates — as each one lands. We'd rather under-promise and over-deliver than the reverse.
